SACRED Solidarity Arts Culture Roots Earth Dance Festival June 21, 2009 Individual and Group Artists/Performers The mission of SACRED Fest is to build community through the arts, culture, activism, and healing. Art is not about conforming to one ideal or one person’s way of expressing themselves; rather it is about getting in touch with one’s own creative spirit as possible means of healing. Participants will experience hands on workshops with local artists, musicians, healers, activists and more. There will be a market of delicious cultural foods, mural painting, poetry slam, drum circles, face painting, stilt walking activists, various performances, and art displays throughout the day. Human rights and peace organizations throughout DC will provide workshops on conflict resolution, restorative justice, and alternatives to violence-to name a few. SACRED festival will provide opportunities to collaborate and share resources with others, present the arts in non traditional ways and deepen public awareness of the dynamic diversity of Washington, DC. Artists are invited to give a workshop/performance within the following mediums: puppetry, street theater, mural painting, DJ, music, movement, dance, photography, crafts etc. The purpose of the workshops/performance is to inspire DC community members to get in touch with their creativity. If you want to have a table, please fill out the tabling application and agreement. If you are interested in giving a workshop, please complete a workshop application and agreement. DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked by June 6, 2009. The accepted applicants will be notified June 15th. If you are unable to pay the $10.00, you are responsible for getting a sponsor to sponsor your performance. Please make checks or money orders out to SACRED Dance Festival. There is no fee for individual DC youth applicants under the age of 18, but they must have adult supervision. Accepted applicants can have a donation bucket and they can sell their CD's.
