Community  Volunteers

    The mission of SACRED Fest is to build community through the arts, culture, activism, and healing. Art is not about conforming to one ideal or one person’s way of expressing themselves; rather it is about getting in touch with one’s own creative spirit as possible means of healing. Participants will experience hands on workshops with local artists, musicians, healers, activists and more. There will be a market of delicious cultural foods, mural painting, poetry slam, drum circles, face painting, stilt walking activists, various performances, and art displays throughout the day.

    Human rights and peace organizations throughout DC will provide workshops on conflict resolution, restorative justice, and alternatives to violence-to name a few. SACRED festival will provide opportunities to collaborate and share resources with others, present the arts in non traditional ways and deepen public awareness of the dynamic diversity of Washington, DC.

DEADLINE: All applicants who wish to volunteer before the festival must complete an application by  June 4th.  For applicants who wish to volunteer for the day of the festival, the deadline is June 18th. All volunteers and organizers must attend a logistics meeting on Friday, June 19th, 2009. 

ELIGIBILITY: Youth 14-17 must have adult supervision or with an organization. DC youth are eligible for community service hours for this event.

Why do you want to volunteer at SACRED fest?

Have you ever volunteered at a festival? (no experience necessary)

Volunteers are an important and valuable part of the SACRED fest and we hope that you will feel like a full part of our team.  We will do the best we can to help you develop your volunteer role with us and make your volunteer experience positive and rewarding.  We will have a mandatory training on Saturday for all volunteers.

The volunteer agrees to help the festival fulfill its mission by:

Ø      Meeting the time commitment and standard which have been mutually agreed to.

Ø      Performing their volunteering role to the best of their ability.

Ø      Giving reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made when this is not possible.

Ø      Working supportively with their fellow team volunteers as an individual and team member.

Ø      Recognizing that this is volunteer work, and there will be no financial compensation.

Ø      Showing up to all scheduled conference calls and meetings on time.
